Dear Parent/Guardian,
While we are still more than a month from the start of the 2017-18 school year, we are working continuously to grow and improve as individual educators and as an entire school, so your student will have a positive and meaningful learning experience. Over the course of the next weeks, we will be sending updates via electronic communications regarding the following topics. I will be sharing specific details and changes for the 2017-18 school year.

Back to School Night--Save the Date

This annual event to welcome students and parents to the 2017-18 school year will be held at Badger Ridge Middle School on August 31 from 4:00 to 7:00. Detailed information will be sent to you via U.S. mail in Mid-August.

Family Contact Meetings

Our staff will begin reaching out to nearly every BRMS family to connect for our Family Contact Meetings. These meetings will begin in August and should be completed by the end of September. The purpose of this time is to learn about your child as an individual and learner. We want to have a strong sense of your child’s interests, passions, strengths, as well as things that may be struggles. The time of and location of these meetings revolve around what works best for you--we are more than happy to meet you at your home, a local restaurant, coffee shop, etc. Each family will meet with a staff member who has been designated as your student’s “advisor”. This advisor will be closely connected to your student throughout the school year and should be a primary contact for you and your student.

Upcoming Topics:

* Advisory Groups and Student-Led Conferences
* Changes to MS Math Progression
* Math Standards-Based Assessment and Grading
* Habits of Learning Grading
* Personal Electronic Devices

I wish your family a safe and enjoyable remainder of the summer.

Best Regards,

Mike Murphy
