This is the image for the news article titled Preliminary Spelling Bee Protocol 2017-18

We will be conducting the classroom preliminary spelling bees electronically on iPads again this year using a Google Form and the Flubaroo add-in, which will do the grading and sorting automatically.  This document gives you the schedule, process, script to read, and the list of words for this year.  We’ve included a configuration profile that turns off spellcheck, auto-correct, and predictive typing.  The students should not have to do this manually.  The webclip will be scoped to students the week of the preliminary classroom bees.

Between December 12th and 15th, the Language Arts teachers in each house will dictate a provided list of 21 spelling words to any student who wishes to participate.  Please follow this protocol:

  1. Have students who wish to participate access their iPads.

  2. Read the script provided in this document to those students.

  3. Teachers pronounce the 21 words to the students, read the sentences and, if requested, the definitions.

  4. Students hit “Submit”.  Google will collect the submissions and Flubaroo will correct them.  You do not need to manage any paperwork.  Once you have read the 21 words to the students, you are done!

  5. The top spellers for each school will be announced by Wednesday, December 20th.  These spellers will receive an invitation to the next level.  They will participate in the school-wide Spelling Bee on Thursday, January 25th in the Step Room starting during Advisory and running until completion.  Should there be a school closure on the 25th, we will hold the school-wide bee on Wednesday, January 31st during Advisory.
